We hold nine monthly meetings in Hartlepool each year, excluding July, August and December. We invite speakers to talk about a range of family, social and local history topics. At our meetings there will always be someone who you can give any advice you may need while tracing your family. The main focus of Old Hartlepool’s history today is the beautiful church of St Hilda. In a cemetery thought to be associated with the old monastery was discovered nearby. The present church of St Hilda dates from the thirteenth century and was built as a burial place for the Norman De Brus (Bruce) family who owned much land hereabouts.
